Happy #VCRDay! Remember heading to Blockbuster to grab some movies for the evening with friends? Fast forward to today and take a moment to appreciate how far technology has come in a short amount of time.
Speaking of technological advances, what are you doing to keep your website up to date in this age of technology? The age of your platform can negatively impact you from both a cyber security and a visual impact. Recently we started working with a client who’s website had not been touched or looked at since it was launched. The platform was out of date and the plugins were out of date causing the site not to work. A simple maintenance program or check would have prevented this. Make sure to continually update your website and plug-ins, keep in mind some updates could cause some serious problems if your platform is dated.
What you should do:
- Check your own website from the front and back end monthly. Update items that are flagged to be updated.
- Remember to backup before each platform update.
- After installing updates or new plug-ins some links could be broken. Have someone test all links or use a link checker.
- And a really scary thought, your website could be corrupt or blacklisted. Do you have an up to date SSL certificate? As of July 2018, Google will flag you as unsecured if you do not have one.
