Social Media continues to do what it was built to do: to connect, reach, interact, influence, collect, analyze, promote, communicate, expand, engage and more! In today’s blog post, we talk about how to choose your channel.
What social media channel should you really invest your time in, right? There’s a ton of platforms from LinkedIn to TikTok (and all time consuming!). Each are unique platforms that host and grow different kinds of content/storytelling. This article will help you start thinking and provide good social media audience awareness.
1. Where to start? I don’t want to get lost down the social media rabbit hole.
To figure out the best platform you should use for your business, you need goals. What do you want to achieve? Do you want to build your brand reputation? Connect with other likeminded businesses? Promote products? After you identify your goal, you can look at the channels being offered: YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
If your goal is promoting your services and connecting with social media users or connecting with likeminded businesses, then maybe Instagram is the channel to choose. Of course, this is just one example out of many, and we understand how unique your business is. Don’t forget to take advantage of our resources like the Free Digital Assessment.
2. Where is my audience?
Research tells us that if you’re 30 or under, you have an Instagram account. Or, if you’re over 30, you have a Facebook account. Knowing your specific audience, and even their ages, are all important to deciding your business’s best channel. Social media is a PLACE to build relationships.
Who do you want to reach? Seek to understand your targeted audience. Their age, location, average income, job, interests, hobbies, etc. This is so you can create content they want to engage with regularly. In a nutshell, GO to the social media platform THEY are using.
Yes, go where your audience is. You may not like a particular social platform, but if your audience is there, you need to be, too.
3. Do you value relationship?
Social media can be mightily used to reach your target audience and build community engagement. After all, it’s relationship marketing to build trust with your customer. We recommend posting two to three times a week, at a consistent basis, to keep up the engagement and continue to grow. Social media is a PLACE to collaborate with your beautiful audience.
We hope this helps you think about social media in a deeper way and enables you to start making active choices about which channel to choose. If you’d like to continue the conversation, please call us at 630.320.2991! We’re more than happy to continue talking about channels with you.
